How and when to apply
Each year there is a target for the number of MSc students admitted to the course, which is currently a combined total of 25 for the MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice and the MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice (Research Methods). We cannot therefore commit to offer a place to every student who meets our criteria. In recognition of this, we seek to review applications after each deadline as this enables us to offer places to the best-qualified and most suitable students.
Criteria for Admission
Our admission criteria are available on this site.
Funding
The Centre advises that those who wish to arrange a scholarship to fund study at Oxford should apply for admission onto the MSc at the earliest opportunity. Please see further details on funding opportunities.
Choosing a College
Applicants are allowed to select one preferred college on their application or can decide to leave the application allocation entirely to the University. If you are particular about which College to attend, you will need to identify you preferred college on the application (although this does not guarantee that you will be offered a place in that college). In this case, the Centre encourages applicants to select a college which has a Fellow in Criminology or Criminal Justice. The Graduate Studies Prospectus can provide further details, as can the Centre using the contact details below.
Application deadlines
The MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice and the MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice (Research Methods) are now OPEN FOR ADMISSIONS for September 2012. The application deadlines for the 2012 admissions cycle are Friday 20 January 2012 and Friday 9 March 2012 (subject to confirmation). Applicants are advised to aim for the earlier application deadline, for several reasons. Firstly, because of the high popularity of the course, places do fill up quickly after the first deadline. Moreover, an early application increases applicants' chances of being offered a place by their first choice College. Lastly, most funding bodies want applicants to have secured a place by their application deadline - and the University scholarships are no different. For further details and to be put on the enquiries database, please email Mr Jonathan Gordon, Graduate Studies Administrator, on jonathan.gordon@crim.ox.ac.uk, or phone 0044 (0) 1865 274444.
