Catherine began her DPhil in 2003 at Christ Church College under the
supervision of Professor Andrew Ashworth and Dr Ros Burnett. Her thesis
seeks
to explore the resettlement process for a sample of discretionary lifers
released between 1992 and 1997. Integrating theories of desistance
and rehabilitation, it examines the process of resettlement from the
perspective of discretionary life-sentenced offenders and their current
supervising officers. The broad aim is to investigate ‘life after
life imprisonment’ and distinguish factors associated with successful
resettlement and those which are relevant to recall and reoffending.
